The Ladies of Film met while attending film school at Central Washington University during our senior year in January 2022. Coming out of the pandemic, many of us had never met each other in person or worked on projects together, but we had admired each other’s work from a distance. A few of us discovered our professor would be asking our senior production class to put together a group to complete our final senior film project. We immediately started a text chain the week before classes started, selecting a solid all-female crew, started building a script and the rest is history.

Our Story

The day our senior class broke into five film crews was absolute chaos. Luckily, we were able to skip to the next step of assigning roles within the production team. After convincing our professor that we needed to add an extra team member, we shared with each other our future goals and our creative strengths. The roles that each of us requested were assigned naturally and each of us settled into our requested assignments. Although our roles were defined for our professor, our titles soon became only a suggestion. All of us worked cohesively in all departments to give advice, lend a hand, share some positivity, and grab a coffee when needed. This is why the Ladies of Film has survived and continues to live on through “The First”.

How was the team formed?

Where are we now?

After graduating from CWU, we all pursued our own goals but agreed to keep in touch. For the next year, the team worked on marketing The First to festivals across the world, premiering in many and winning awards including Best Film, Best Story, Best Director, Best Performance, Best Cinematography, Best Short Film and several others. Independently, we have continued to work in our field on local productions, directing short films, and continuing education. We ultimately decided that we wanted to continue working together and have been planning what is next for The First! Stay tuned for more creative storytelling from the Ladies of Film.
